A Project Template exists primarily for advanced customers who have lots of detail that needs to be associated with any given job. With Items, Custom Fields, and all the other fields one might associate with a Project, there is a lot to pack in. Project Templates can pre-package some of this detail to make Project creation easier.

We generally advise templates be used to capture details for either clients who have certain procedures that must be followed, or specific project varieties that tend to have a similar process. There is no limit to the number of Project Templates you can create.

Project Templates are created by using existing projects and turning that existing copy into a fresh project ready to be worked on. This means things like start and due dates can be moved forward to the appropriate time while still retaining their relative lengths and relationships to each other. It also means all items will be marked as in their earliest workstage, and will have no time records tracked against them. You will also be free to use these templates against any given client.

Your editing capabilities will generally be the same as when you are making changes to a standard project. You are able to view your existing templates and edit them:

Templates are selected for use when you attempt to create any given project.
